One of the main goals of the study tour is to complete an investigation about a certain subject in the field of mechanical engineering. All participants have to contribute in this research. Besides the research, participants also follow guiding courses. These courses will cover important and relevant topics and are given by teachers from the University of Twente or external speakers. For completing a part of the investigation and participate in all lectures, student receive 11 ECTS. These ECTS can be administrated in the bachelor as elective courses or you can implement these credits in the minor program ‘International Exploration’. If you’d like to use them in your master studies, please contact the head of your chosen mastertrack.
In view of the combination of Dubai and Indonesia, a broad theme is chosen: EXTREMES. The objective of the study tour can be described as to investigate the mechanical engineering extremes in Dubai and Indonesia, in particular the extremes that make each country unique or characteristic. Within this theme a wide range of mechanical engineering areas will be considered including “project planning” (e.g. in construction) and "energy sources". The main research question to answer during this project is: “Which current mechanical engineering extremes are typical for the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia, and why?” The study project consists of lectures, desk research, field visits and reports. - a study tour, during which further data are collected and reported. More...
During this project, a preliminary and a final report will be written. The preliminary report, based on the macro and meso analysis, gives a provisional theoretical answer to the main research question. In the final report the answer to the research question above is given based on the preliminary report and the data collected during the study tour.
